Synthes 280.800 DCS/DHS Lag Screw 12.7mm Thread/80mm

• Model: 280.800
• 12.7 mm Thread Diameter
• 80 mm Length
• Stainless Steel
• For DCS and DHS Plates

A small, non-sterile, threaded rod with a slotted head typically used for internal orthopedic fracture fixation by being screwed into bone to hold plates or nails to bone or to provide direct interfragmentary stabilization of bone, or it may fasten soft tissue to bone. It is made of a material that is corrosion resisting and cannot be chemically degraded or absorbed via natural body processes (includes implant grade metal such as surgical steel, titanium alloy, or carbon fiber). A "lag screw" can be any of these used to obtain compression. This device must be sterilized prior to use.

The Synthes 280.800 Lag Screw is a core component within the DHS and DCS fixation systems, engineered to anchor plates securely to bone while inducing controlled compression across fracture sites. With a robust 12.7 mm thread diameter and 80 mm length, this screw is intended for use in adult hip or distal femur constructs where substantial load-bearing and mechanical engagement are critical.

Crafted from high-grade stainless steel, it offers exceptional durability and resistance to corrosion—key features for ensuring long-term performance in dynamic, weight-bearing contexts. Surgeons can choose between sterile (280.800S) or non-sterile versions, depending on surgical needs and hospital protocols.

Clinically, the lag screw plays a pivotal role in compressing the fracture fragments while the DHS/DCS plate provides angular stability. Its precise engineering supports optimal load transfer and alignment, making it indispensable in the stabilization of intertrochanteric or peri-condylar femoral fractures, where restoration of anatomical contours and load-bearing capacity is paramount in healing and functional recovery.
