The Ethicon VST10 VISTASEAL™ Fibrin Sealant (Human) 10mL is a two-component, human-derived fibrin sealant designed to assist in achieving hemostasis during surgical procedures. It consists of human fibrinogen and human thrombin, which, when combined, form a fibrin clot that helps control bleeding. The VISTASEAL system is unique in that it is the first fibrin sealant exclusively designed to be sprayed without gas in both open and minimally invasive procedures, eliminating some of the steps required for set-up with gas and potentially saving valuable time in the operating room.
VISTASEAL is indicated for use in adults undergoing surgery when control of bleeding by standard surgical techniques, such as suture, ligature, and cautery, is ineffective or impractical. It is effective in heparinized patients, making it suitable for a wide range of surgical applications. The sealant is designed to provide rapid and durable hemostasis, reducing the need for additional interventions and improving patient outcomes. Its formulation allows for easy application and effective bleeding control, even in challenging surgical sites.
Proper storage and preparation are essential for the effective use of VISTASEAL. The product should be stored frozen at -18°C or colder and can be kept for up to 2 years. Once thawed, it should be used within 48 hours if stored at 2°C to 8°C. The components are stable at room temperature for up to 24 hours. Preparation involves a 5-minute thaw time in a sterile water bath at a temperature no higher than 37°C (99°F). It's important to note that VISTASEAL should not be injected directly into the circulatory system, and its use is contraindicated in patients with a history of anaphylaxis or severe systemic reactions to human blood products.
