The Olympus EndoClot EPK2303-01 Polysaccharide Hemostatic System Kit is a specialized endoscopic hemostatic device designed to assist physicians in managing bleeding within the gastrointestinal tract. It uses a powder form of AMP® (Absorbable Modified Polymer) particles derived from plant starch to accelerate clot formation at the bleeding site. When delivered, the AMP particles draw water from surrounding blood, effectively concentrating clotting elements (platelets, red blood cells, coagulation proteins) and accelerating the natural clotting cascade. The particles are biocompatible, non-pyrogenic, free of animal or human derivatives, and are fully absorbable by the body over time, leaving no long-term foreign residue.

Application is achieved through a delivery applicator consisting of a mixing chamber, a catheter, and connecting tubing, all of which are included in the single-use kit. The catheter has a working length of 230 cm and is compatible with endoscopes having a minimum working channel of 2.8 mm, enabling the endoscopist to reach deep GI bleeding sites. The kit allows for controlled spraying under consistent air pressure, which helps reduce occlusion or “white out” effects. The design also accommodates irrigation during the procedure, enabling visualization and, if necessary, reapplication without significantly disrupting the field of view.

Clinically, the EPK2303-01 variant (3 g) is intended for moderate- to large-area bleeding scenarios, including post-polypectomy, post-biopsy, tumor bleeding, or diffuse oozing post-EMR/ESD. In practice, EndoClot is often used adjunctively alongside conventional hemostatic methods (clips, coagulation, injections) when those alone are insufficient. While the device is generally regarded as safe for GI use, potential risks such as inflammatory reactions, perforation, bowel rupture, or air embolism must be considered. As with any advanced hemostatic tool, its success depends on correct deployment technique (e.g., maintaining catheter distance, avoiding tip contact with fluid, careful irrigation) and the clinical context of the bleed.
