The 3M Curos Disinfecting Cap (CFF1‑270) is a passive disinfection accessory designed for vascular access safety. Each cap is pre‑saturated with 70 % isopropyl alcohol, enclosed in a foam core, and mounted inside a twist‑on plastic cap that fits securely over needleless connectors or IV access ports. When the foil seal is peeled and the cap is twisted onto a compatible port, the alcohol is released, bathing the port surfaces and disinfecting them within one minute.

Once in place, the cap also acts as a physical barrier, shielding the port from environmental contaminants for up to seven days (unless removed earlier). This dual role—disinfect + protect—reduces reliance on manual “scrub the hub” techniques and helps reduce variability in user technique.

From a workflow perspective, Curos caps are bright green, which helps staff quickly identify that a port is protected. Their twist‑on design ensures a firm connection, minimizing accidental dislodgment. By integrating this device into IV protocols, facilities aim to reduce central line–associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) and improve compliance with IV access site care standards.
