The Mustang™ Over‑the‑Wire (OTW) PTA balloon dilatation catheter, specified here with a 7.0 mm diameter, 40 mm balloon length, and 135 cm shaft, is designed for high-performance vascular interventions in peripheral arteries. Compatible with standard 0.035″ guidewires and introducer sheaths of 5 French, it combines a slim profile with a large treatment balloon—optimizing lesion entry and vessel access without upsizing the sheath. The low entry profile is typically only ~15% larger than the wire itself, enabling streamlined access.

Constructed using Boston Scientific’s proprietary NyBax™ balloon material (a nylon/Pebax® co‑extrusion), this catheter is rated up to 24 atmospheres (approximately 2431 kPa)—offering powerful, noncompliant expansion within a compact, foldable structure. It is hydrophilically coated (Mediglide™) to enhance trackability and ease of advancement through tortuous anatomy. The catheter features highly visible radiopaque platinum‑iridium markers to define the balloon limits under fluoroscopy for accurate positioning.

As part of the Mustang™ family of 0.035″ balloon catheters, this configuration extends Boston Scientific’s proven platform into larger-diameter vessels or stenosis suitable for a 7 mm size. Indicated for percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) of peripheral vasculature—including iliac, femoral, popliteal, tibial, and peroneal arteries—and for dialysis fistula maintenance, it is also suited for post-dilatation of balloon-expandable or self-expanding stents. Its balance of excellent deliverability, high burst pressure, and versatile sizing make it a dependable workhorse device for peripheral interventions.
