The 3M PRE1155US Prevena Peel & Place Dressing (13 cm) is a negative-pressure incision dressing intended for closed, linear surgical incisions up to approximately 13 cm in length. It is part of the Prevena family of closed-incision negative pressure therapy (ciNPT) systems, which help clinicians manage the surgical site environment beyond the operating room. The dressing integrates multiple functional layers: a foam bolster to channel suction, a fluid-wicking interface, an adhesive film for sealing, and a stabilization layer to minimize film distortion. The clinician peels and places the dressing over the incision, creating a sealed environment that connects to a negative pressure source.
Once in place, the dressing applies a continuous negative pressure of –125 mmHg to the incision area. That pressure draws fluid away from the incision (such as interstitial fluid or small amounts of exudate), helps reduce edema, and supports apposition of the wound edges by distributing mechanical force along the incision. The inclusion of ionic silver (0.019 %) in the interface layer helps minimize bacterial colonization at the dressing/skin interface. Over its usage period (up to 7 days), the dressing also acts as a barrier to external contamination, supporting a controlled microenvironment for the healing incision.
In clinical practice, the PRE1155US is especially useful for shorter incisions — for example, in vascular, general, or orthopedic surgeries where the incision length is modest and closed-incision negative pressure therapy is desired. Its “peel & place” design simplifies application and may reduce operating room time compared to multi-part or more complex systems. Because it is single use and sterile, it reduces cross-contamination risk and streamlines logistics. By maintaining negative pressure over the incision, it can help reduce complications such as seroma formation or superficial surgical site infection (though outcomes depend on patient factors, surgical technique, and adherence to best practices).
