The AMSINO AS3500 Secondary Piggyback IV Set is engineered to facilitate safe and precise secondary infusions (often referred to as IVPB) of medications or fluids alongside a primary IV line. Because it is designed with a drop factor of 20 drops per mL, it offers a finer granularity in flow control compared to larger drop sets, which is particularly useful in settings where accurate dosing and slower infusion rates are required. The 40″ tubing length offers sufficient reach between the medication bag and the infusion site without excessive slack that could lead to kinking or entanglement.
One of the distinguishing features is the integrated hanger, which allows the secondary (piggyback) bag to be placed higher on the IV pole than the primary bag. This gravitational advantage helps ensure that the medication in the secondary line infuses first; after completion, the primary infusion will resume automatically. The system also supports either vented or non‑vented configurations, giving users flexibility depending on whether the fluid source is in rigid or collapsible containers. Flow control is managed by a roller clamp, which allows stepwise adjustment of fluid speed, and the rotating male luer lock connector provides a secure, leak-resistant, twistable interface to other IV lines or devices.
From a safety and compatibility standpoint, the AS3500 set is manufactured with materials that are latex-free, DEHP-free, and non-pyrogenic, reducing risk of allergic reactions or toxic leachables in sensitive patient populations. Its priming volume is relatively modest (~9.2 mL), which helps limit the extra fluid added to the system and reduces the risk of introducing air or dilution errors. Packaged individually in sterile PE poly pouches and supplied 50 sets per case, it is designed for single-use to maintain sterility and reduce cross-contamination. In clinical practice, this set is well suited for hospital, infusion centers, or bedside medication administration where piggyback delivery is needed in conjunction with ongoing IV therapy.
