The Alexis Contained Extraction System GTB17 is a surgically designed device that enables the safe, contained removal of tissue specimens through minimally invasive approaches — for example, extracting a uterus, large fibroid, or other specimen via a laparoscopic or transvaginal route. One of its main advantages is that it isolates the specimen from the peritoneal cavity during extraction, helping to reduce the risk of spillage, contamination, or dissemination of tissue fragments into the abdominal cavity.

The system comprises a flexible specimen bag sized for a 17 cm ring, with a generous internal capacity (6,500 mL) that accommodates larger specimens. It also includes guards (small and medium) and a retractor to manage and protect the bag during the extraction process. The guard components help shield the bag from sharp instrumentation and aid in anchoring the bag, while the retractor ensures appropriate exposure of the extraction site.

In clinical practice, the Alexis CES GTB17 is often integrated into reduced-port, multiport, or single-incision surgical workflows. Surgeons deploy the bag, place the specimen within, and then extract the tissue through the protected channel, maintaining a contained system throughout. This device mitigates many of the concerns associated with uncontained morcellation or specimen removal in laparoscopy, and it enhances surgical safety in tissue extraction.
