The Boston Scientific Flexima APD J‑Tip Drainage Catheter System (12F × 25 cm) is part of the Flexima drainage catheter line, engineered for broad percutaneous drainage applications — including urinary, biliary, pleural, and abscess collections. Its J‑tip design helps with atraumatic navigation through tortuous anatomy, anchoring and reducing the likelihood of catheter migration. The catheter system is more than just the catheter itself: the kit typically contains stiffening cannulas, introducer tools, dilators, connecting tubes, guidewires, and accessory components that facilitate safe and controlled placement.
One of the highlight features is its Glidex™ hydrophilic coating, which lowers insertion friction and promotes smoother advancement through tissues and toward the target cavity. The lumen design with large drainage holes is intended to maintain efficient fluid evacuation and reduce clogging. The catheter’s body is built to resist kinking and to preserve patency under bending or articulating angles, which is useful in anatomically complex or constrained paths.
Clinically, this 12F × 25 cm variant is suited to moderate-sized drainage needs — not so large as to be overly obtrusive, yet sufficient for many collections. Its length is chosen to reach intended targets without undue excess. As with all Flexima drainage devices, it is designed for single use and must be assessed periodically if left indwelling (typically up to 90 days). Its broad indication set makes it a versatile option for interventional radiologists, urologists, and drainage procedures across multiple domains.
