The Autotome RX 44 Cannulating Sphinctertome (model M00545170) is a single-use, wire-guided sphincterotome featuring a 4.4 French (≈ 1.47 mm) distal tip and a 20 mm electrosurgical cutting wire. Built on Boston Scientific’s RX short-wire platform, it incorporates DirecTip™ Technology, with a center-lumen design that allows the guidewire to extend through the tip—facilitating precise wire-guided biliary access and reducing the risk of contrast-induced post‑ERCP pancreatitis.

Equipped with a blue insulated cut wire that serves as a visual marker near the proximal end, the device helps enhance placement accuracy and cut control during sphincterotomy. Its optimized C-channel, a feature of the RX system, improves passability and ensures the guidewire remains within the channel during device exchanges, offering versatility across ERCP techniques.

The Autotome RX 44 supports controlled steerability through Flexcontrol mechanics, along with a tapered tip that accommodates smaller orifice anatomy. It is engineered for seamless transitions between over-the-wire and short-wire ERCP workflows, helping streamline procedure time and improve handling ergonomics. Note: a 2024 recall affected one specific lot of model M00545170 due to foreign material on the cut-wire segment, resulting in potential bowing issues—users should verify lot numbers before use.
