he Mahurkar Elite Acute Triple Lumen Catheter (12.5 Fr × 20 cm, kit) is a high‑performance vascular access device designed for short-term hemodialysis in patients requiring central venous access. It features three lumens: two large lumens dedicated for dialysis blood flow (arterial and venous) and a third smaller lumen for infusion, medication, or monitoring (e.g. central venous pressure). This configuration allows clinicians to maintain hemodialysis function while also delivering medications or drawing labs, avoiding placement of separate central lines and conserving vascular access.
One of the standout design features is the Double-D™ lumen architecture, which maximizes internal flow area and helps maintain balanced flow rates while minimizing arterial pressures. Bench testing claims that recirculation (i.e. dialyzed blood returning prematurely) is minimized to < 1% in both forward and reverse flow settings, which enhances dialysis efficiency and reduces wasted flow. The catheter’s shaft is engineered to soften by ~54% after insertion, which helps it conform to the vessel shape and reduce irritation of vessel walls and adjacent tissues.
The kit packaging ensures that clinicians have all necessary accessories in one sterile tray — guidewire, dilators, introducer needle, sealing caps, and dressings — simplifying the insertion workflow. Its reinforced hub reduces the risk of kinking during manipulation or when navigating tortuous vasculature, which is especially valuable in the jugular, subclavian, or femoral insertion sites. The triple-lumen capability, high flow performance, and integrated infusion port make it versatile for patients needing intensive dialysis, apheresis, or simultaneous vascular therapy. Correct insertion technique, careful handling to avoid tip damage, and vigilant monitoring for infection or mechanical complications are essential for safe and effective use.
