Covidien CVN31146650 Devon Universal Handle For Or Lights

Model: CVN31146650

The Devon Universal Light Handle CVN31146650 is a surgical accessory designed to provide a sterile interface between the surgeon’s hand and the overhead surgical light. In modern operating rooms, maintaining sterility is critical, and sterile handles or covers are used on light handles to allow repositioning of the surgical light without contaminating the sterile field. This handle replaces the original light handle on compatible OR lights and becomes the mounting base for sterile light-handle covers.

Because the handle is “universal” in the Devon / Cardinal Health ecosystem, it enables standardization across multiple light systems. In practice, a hospital may have different models or brands of surgical lights; by installing Devon universal handles (with the proper adapter variant, in this case for OMI/Midmark center-focus lights), the same sterile covers (flexible or semi-rigid) can be used across all lights. This simplifies logistics, reduces inventory variety, and helps ensure that covers fit properly in all OR lights.

Once installed, the handle must reliably withstand repeated use and sterilization/cleaning cycles, mechanical torque from repositioning, and the interface forces from cover insertion and removal. The clinician grips the handle (or cover) during surgery to reposition or fine-tune the light beam, and it must feel secure and stable, without slippage or play. Because it is a non‑powered surgical accessory, its failure modes are typically mechanical (wear, loosening, cracking) rather than electrical — so durability, material choice, and tight tolerances are critical to its safe, long-term performance.
