The EL‑21‑L Surgitie is a pre‑formed ligating loop assembly designed to streamline endoscopic ligation in minimally invasive surgery. Rather than requiring knot tying through a port, the device includes a suture loop already threaded through a carrier, with a self‑securing sliding knot. This configuration allows the surgeon to position the loop around a vessel or tissue pedicle and then tighten it until the knot locks, simplifying ligation under the constraints of limited access or working space. The use of a carrier helps guide and protect the suture during insertion, ensuring smooth deployment.
One of its key design features is the nylon carrier (≈3.9 mm O.D.) through which the Polysorb™ absorbable suture is threaded. The suture anchors at the proximal end, passes through the carrier, and emerges at the distal end fashioned into a loop. The loop’s sliding knot mechanism is designed to lock when tension is applied, securing the ligation. The device is compatible with a delivery system (5 mm outer diameter, length ~15.24 cm) that helps introduce and guide the assembly through laparoscopic trocars or ports; for larger trocar sleeves, a converter can be used. This feature enhances the device’s flexibility across various minimally invasive setups.
Because the suture is absorbable (Polysorb) and colored violet for visibility, the EL‑21‑L is suitable when long‑term foreign material is not desirable, but reliable ligation strength is needed for the early healing period. The braided polyester construction gives strength and handling advantages, while the coating optimizes glide and tissue passage. In practice, this ligating loop finds uses in gynecologic, urologic, general surgery, and thoracic endoscopic procedures—especially when ligating small vessels or pedicles in confined spaces. Its pre‑formed loop saves operative time, potentially reduces knot complexity errors, and helps maintain consistency in ligature tension.
