These replacement pads from MidCentral Medical are designed to provide cushioning on armboards used during surgical procedures, so that a patient’s arm is comfortably supported and protected. The pads are made of foam, with an electrolyte‑resistant cover which is easy to clean — important in the OR environment where bodily fluids or disinfectants can contact the pad surface. They mount via Velcro to the phenolic armboard structure, so they can be removed and replaced (e.g. for cleaning or if damaged) without disassembling the armboard. The various thickness options (1″, 2″, 3″, 4″) allow matching the pad stack height to the table pad, ensuring that the arm support is level and not creating pressure points.
The selection of lengths (24″ or 26″) gives surgeons or OR staff flexibility according to the surgical procedure, patient arm length, or whether the armboard is on a standard or bariatric size configuration. The width is standard (≈ 6″) in most models, except for certain bariatric pads (e.g. MCM‑413) which are wider to provide more surface area and stability for larger patients or wider armboards. This helps in situations where patients have larger arms or when more support is needed to avoid sliding or shearing.
From a practical standpoint, matching the pad thickness to the table pad is critical: if the armboard pad is too thin or too thick, the arm may be elevated or depressed relative to the table, which can lead to discomfort, pressure injury risk, or compromise access / imaging. The cover’s material being electrolyte‑resistant helps with durability and infection control, since frequent cleaning is necessary. Velcro fastening means pads can be replaced without difficulty, but Velcro integrity must be maintained (i.e. if the Velcro loses grip, pad slippage could be an issue). Also, selecting the correct size / width is important especially when using bariatric armboards: a narrower pad than the armboard might leave edges exposed or reduce support; too wide may interfere with rails or adjacent equipment.
