Mimedx GS-5180 Dehydrated Human Amnion Chorion Membrane Allograft
Mimedx GS-5180
The GS‑5180 is an 18 mm circular disk of EPIFIX®, a dehydrated human amnion/chorion membrane produced using Mimedx’s proprietary PURION® process. Derived from donated placental tissue, this allograft retains a rich extracellular matrix composed of collagen types I, III, IV; elastin; fibronectin; laminin; proteoglycans—plus over 300 regulatory proteins like growth factors and cytokines that actively support wound healing and tissue regeneration. It undergoes terminal sterilization and is shelf‑stable at room temperature for up to five years, making it convenient for clinical use.
Clinically, this product is utilized in both acute and chronic wound environments, including diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers, pressure injuries, dehisced or surgical wounds, and even skin defects post-Mohs surgery. Level I evidence from randomized controlled trials has shown that EPIFIX significantly improves healing rates—achieving up to 85% closure at four weeks for diabetic ulcers versus standard care. Its benefits include providing a protective barrier, enhancing granulation tissue formation, and seamlessly integrating with adjunctive therapies like negative pressure wound therapy or hyperbaric oxygen.
