The Terumo SURFLO 3SR‑OX1832CA IV catheter is a high‑flow peripheral vascular access device intended for use in settings requiring robust infusion capability. Its 18 gauge size is among the larger standard peripheral gauges, which enables greater fluid flow (e.g. for large-volume infusions, blood products, or rapid push agents) compared to smaller gauge catheters. The length of 1¼″ is generally sufficient for penetrating superficial to moderately deep veins while maintaining stability in the vessel. The green color coding makes it quickly identifiable in inventory and during use.

Insertion is aided by design features that enhance user control and first-stick success. The ultra-sharp, double-bevel introducer needle is lubricated with medical grade lubricant to reduce tissue drag and ease penetration. Once the catheter enters the vessel, the built-in preview chamber (in the sure-grip hub) provides immediate visual confirmation of proper placement by showing blood flashback. This “flash” check helps reduce misplacement or repeated attempts. The straight (non-safety, non-blood-control) hub design simplifies handling and reduces mechanical complexity.

After placement, the ETFE catheter’s thin-wall construction helps maintain a favorable internal diameter, supporting efficient flow. Its flexibility and design help reduce kinking or stress on the vessel, which is especially important during patient movement or line handling. Being latex-free and supplied sterile in tamper-evident packaging adds to its safety profile in clinical settings. Overall, the 3SR‑OX1832CA offers a combination of high flow potential, user-friendly insertion features, and a durable catheter design suitable for demanding IV therapy applications.
