A small implantable plate/set of plates designed to be attached with screws to craniofacial bone (including the maxilla and/or mandible), to bridge and stabilize a fracture gap or craniotomy flap, and/or cover a burr hole; the material cannot be chemically degraded or absorbed by natural body processes. It is available in a variety of designs (e.g., Y-plate, curved plate, mesh-panel, burr hole cover) and includes implant-grade metal; in addition to the plate(s) bone screws may be included. Non-sterile and single use.
The Synthes 446.50 is a precision-engineered oblique L‑plate, fabricated from high-grade titanium and designed for mini fragment craniofacial or small-bone fixation. Measuring a lightweight 1.5 mm in thickness, it offers excellent biomechanical strength while minimizing bulk—ideal for delicate anatomical regions. The L‑shape and oblique orientation allow for versatile application, contouring to complex bone geometries with minimal compromise to soft tissue.
Its arrangement of two holes along one arm and three along the other enables surgeons to tailor fixation based on fracture pattern and anatomical access. The left-oriented version caters to left-side anatomical structures, facilitating accurate fit and secure osteosynthesis. Its titanium composition ensures biocompatibility, offering corrosion resistance and radiopacity suitable for intraoperative visualization and postoperative imaging.
Compact and thoughtfully designed, this plate fits well into a mini-fragment fixation system, balancing the need for structural support and surgical precision. Whether used in maxillofacial reconstructions or small-bone repairs, the 446.50 L‑plate represents a reliable option for surgeons requiring strength, adaptability, and minimal profile in their fixation solutions.
