The Aesculap JJ587U functions as a container identification label for use in rigid sterilization or storage systems. In surgical tray and container systems, it provides a means to affix a barcode, alphanumeric identifier, or other labeling utility to the lid or body of the container. This helps sterile processing or inventory control personnel to consistently and reliably track the contents, instrument sets, or sterilization cycles associated with that particular container.
Because the label is reusable and made to endure the sterilization environment (though initial supply is non‑sterile), it must be constructed from materials tolerant to high temperatures, chemical disinfectants, moist heat, or sterilant gases without distortion, fading, or delamination. Its relatively low profile (10 mm thick) ensures it does not interfere with sealing, container closure, or sterilant migration paths.
In practice, sterile processing departments would mount this label accessory in a designated slot or recess on the container or lid. After acquisition, they can apply barcode or printed identifiers (e.g. via labels, laser-etching, or overprinting). During instrument reprocessing, the label remains affixed and aids in scanning / tracking workflow (e.g. logging sterilization lots, contents, or location). Because it is reusable, it becomes part of the long-term container hardware infrastructure, saving cost versus disposable label strips.
This medical instrument is in pristine, unused condition, sealed in its original packaging and untampered with since leaving the manufacturer. It may have been removed from packaging for the purpose of photo.
