The APEX Monorail PTCA dilation catheter features an OptiLEAP™ semi-compliant balloon that measures 2.0 mm in diameter and 30 mm in length, delivered via a Monorail (rapid-exchange) system. Constructed on Boston Scientific’s APEX platform, it includes TruFeel™ hypotube shaft technology designed to optimize pushability while maintaining flexibility and kink resistance. The balloon is marked with platinum–iridium marker bands to ensure clear visibility and accurate positioning under fluoroscopy.
The catheter employs Bi‑Segment™ inner shaft technology, with a stiff proximal section to support force transmission and a more flexible distal section for lesion crossing. Bench data demonstrate a 16–35% improvement in pushability and 35% enhancement in tip flexibility over the previous Maverick platform, translating to improved crossing ability and lesion access. The OptiLEAP balloon further enhances compliance, reducing waist formation and allowing more uniform dilation.
Indicated for both pre- and post-dilation in percutaneous coronary interventions, this model is tailored for stenotic lesions in native arteries or grafts and is compatible with balloon-expandable stents between 2.0 mm and 5.0 mm. Its Monorail design supports fast catheter exchanges during PCI, making it an efficient choice in complex or time-sensitive procedures. Clinicians appreciate its balanced profile—combining deliverability, radiopacity, and predictable dilation—particularly in challenging or tortuous anatomy.
