The MAHURKAR 8888101001HP is designed as an acute high‑pressure triple lumen catheter for vascular access, especially for hemodialysis and related therapies. This tray‑format product (IC Tray) includes the catheter (12 Fr, 13 cm) with curved extensions and necessary insertion components in a sterile, single‑use kit. It provides three separate lumens: two large lumens for high flow (arterial and venous for dialysis) and one auxiliary lumen that remains available between treatments for medication, fluid, or sampling. The structure is optimized not just for flow but for safety and durability.
One of its key engineering features is the laser‑cut side slot(s), which are designed to reduce the chance of occlusion due to positioning against vessel walls or fibrin/debris buildup. The catheter material is thermosensitive polyurethane, offering adequate stiffness during insertion (to facilitate ease of placement) yet softening significantly afterward (up to about 50%) to conform to vascular anatomy and improve patient comfort. The catheter also includes a reinforced hub to help prevent kinking, especially when the catheter is placed in challenging vascular configurations (e.g. femoral access or in patients with tortuous vessels).
Clinically, the device is intended for short‑term use (in general, under 30 days) for acute settings. It allows clinicians to perform repeated high-pressure injections if needed (e.g. contrast media), while also offering an infusion port to reduce the need for separate IV lines. Care must be taken to remove the catheter once no longer needed, per standard guidelines, to limit risk of infection and other complications. This device plays a role when high flow and multiple access needs are anticipated in acute care / nephrology settings.
