The Ethicon 8665G PROLENE 3‑0 is a non‑absorbable surgical suture composed of monofilament polypropylene, dyed blue to enhance visibility against tissue. Because it does not degrade over time, it offers long-term stability and continuous mechanical support, making it suitable for tissues requiring durable reinforcement. The polypropylene material exhibits excellent biocompatibility, eliciting minimal tissue reaction, and is resistant to enzymatic degradation or weakening in physiologic environments.

This suture comes preloaded on an FS‑2 reverse cutting needle, 3/8 circle, with a needle length of 19 mm. The reverse cutting geometry means the cutting edges are located on the outer curvature, which aids in penetrating tougher tissues such as skin, allowing more controlled directionality and resistance to suture pull‑through. The 3/8 circular shape offers a balance between ease of passage and maneuverability in confined anatomical spaces. The 18‑inch filament length provides sufficient length for various closure techniques while minimizing waste.

Clinically, the 8665G PROLENE is often chosen for skin closures, general soft tissue approximation, and ligation, especially in areas where long-term support is critical. Its minimal tissue adherence and smooth passage reduce trauma and facilitate suture removal, while its durability makes it a standard in cardiovascular, ophthalmic, and neurosurgical applications as well.
