Hill-Rom TotalCare SpO2Rt 2 Rotation Module
• for Hill-Rom TotalCare SpO2Rt 2 ICU Bed
• provides lateral rotation capability
The Rotation Module of the Hill-Rom TotalCare SpO₂RT 2 is part of an advanced pulmonary therapy surface that provides Continuous Lateral Rotation Therapy (CLRT). In effect, the module gradually moves the patient side to side over a set arc, offering a dynamic and automated turning function. This lateral movement helps mobilize secretions, improve ventilation-perfusion matching, and reduce risks of pulmonary complications (e.g. atelectasis) in patients who are largely immobile. Because it’s built into the mattress surface rather than being an external turning frame, it enables seamless integration into existing ICU workflows.
To support safety and caregiver oversight, the rotation module is governed by interlocks and logic: if conditions such as side rails being lowered, bed tilt limits, or alarms are active, rotation therapy will pause. Caregivers initiate rotation and monitor it via the Graphical Caregiver Interface (GCI) on the bed’s siderail, which displays rotation history, current status, and allows toggling of therapy modes. The system’s design also ensures that the rotation module coexists with other therapy modules (like percussion & vibration, and low air loss), allowing combination or sequential therapies tailored to patient needs.
From a usability standpoint, the module is engineered to function reliably under full patient load (up to 500 lb), and is built to be removable for service or replacement. Because it is an internal part of the pulmonary therapy surface, its movement parameters (such as rotation angle, speed, and dwell time) are optimized within the bed’s broader system algorithms rather than user-adjusted externally. The result is a more “hands-off” therapy delivery that supports continuous turning without requiring manual repositioning by staff — promoting consistency, reducing caregiver burden, and enabling more precise delivery of pulmonary support.
