The CAPSTONE CONTROL™ 14×22×12° Spacer (Model 4011422) is a lumbar interbody fusion implant designed to restore disc height, provide spinal stability, and facilitate bone growth between vertebral bodies following excision or decomposition of disc tissue. Its angled (12°) lordosis helps to maintain or restore the natural curvature of the lumbar spine, which is often lost in degenerative disc disease. The 14 mm height and 22 mm length are in the moderate‑to‑large range of interbody spacers, making this device suitable for patients requiring a somewhat larger graft space but still within an insertion corridor manageable via posterior or transforaminal approaches.

Constructed from a sterile, polymeric material, this spacer is intended for single use, avoiding risks associated with reuse or breakdown in mechanical properties. The hollow geometry of the spacer allows packing of bone graft material (autograft, allograft, demineralized grafts) which supports osteointegration and eventual fusion across the disc space. Its sterile, single‑use nature also helps reduce risk of contamination.

Clinically, this device offers surgeons an option for intermediate lordosis correction and vertebral support in lumbar interbody fusion procedures (often at levels L2‑S1). The angled spacer can help reduce strain on surrounding tissues by improving alignment, potentially lowering adjacent level stresses. Proper device selection, insertion technique, and use of supplemental fixation (such as pedicle screws) are critically important for achieving stable fusion, preventing subsidence, migration, or failure of the implant before solid bone bridging occurs.
