MC28-04-128 Micro‑Cide™ 28 HLD is a ready-to-activate high-level disinfectant / cold sterilant formulated by Micro‑Scientific Industries for medical, surgical, dental, and endoscopic instruments, especially those sensitive to heat. It comes as a liquid glutaraldehyde base with a separately attached powder activator. Once the activator is mixed in, the solution turns green—signaling that it is ready for use—and maintains biocidal activity for up to 28 days, provided its concentration stays above the threshold 1.8% glutaraldehyde. The formulation is designed to be surfactant-free and free-rinsing, with additives to control pH, provide wetting, and inhibit rust or corrosion on delicate instruments.

In typical use, Micro‑Cide28 achieves high-level disinfection at ambient (room) temperature in about 25 minutes, making it relatively fast compared to many standard glutaraldehyde formulations. Under extended exposure (10 hours), it is claimed to achieve sterilization. Because of its moderate pH and compatibility claims, it's suited for instruments, scopes, and devices that cannot be autoclaved or exposed to high temperatures. Its broad spectrum of efficacy includes many bacteria, spores, mycobacteria, viruses, and fungi (under controlled test conditions), making it suitable for reprocessing a wide variety of clinical instrumentation.

However, users must monitor the solution’s glutaraldehyde concentration (using suitable test strips) before each use to confirm it remains above the minimum effective concentration, and discard it after 28 days from activation even if it still tests above the threshold. Also, safety precautions are necessary given the toxicity of glutaraldehyde (e.g. respiratory, dermal exposure) and regulatory warnings in some jurisdictions. Proper handling, ventilation, personal protective equipment, and compliance with label instructions are critical when using this product in clinical settings.
