The Mindray 0998‑00‑1802‑0301A CO₂ Module is an accessory module intended for integration into the V‑Series patient monitors. Its function is to measure carbon dioxide levels—end‑tidal CO₂ primarily—for patients under ventilation or other respiratory monitoring situations. The “Microstream” designation indicates that it uses a technology capable of sampling small volumes of gas (small bore sampling lines), which is advantageous in settings where low flow, less dead space, or minimal obstruction is needed (e.g. neonatal or pediatric care, or when minimal disturbance is desired). Being a plug‑in module, it slots into the CO₂ bay on the monitor, engaging both the power and data connections so that the CO₂ waveform, numeric values, alarms etc. are handled in the same UI as the other vitals.
Mechanically, the module is compact (≈ 6″ × 5¼″ × 2″), which allows it to be added without greatly increasing the depth or height of the monitor stack or cart footprint. The design is intended to be robust, to withstand repeated module insertion/removal, cleaning/disinfection, and environmental variations typical in hospital wards, ICUs, ORs etc. Because CO₂ readings are sensitive to leaks, moisture, sampling line resistance, and the quality of the module’s internal optical and airflow systems, OEM quality matters—refurbished or used modules should be verified for calibration, zeroing, and sampling path leakage.
Operationally, the 0998‑00‑1802‑0301A allows clinicians to monitor respiratory status via capnography, which is essential in many critical care, anesthesia, transport, and emergency situations. It provides both numerical and waveform feedback (end‑tidal CO₂, possibly inspiratory CO₂, respiratory rate derived from CO₂), helping detect hypoventilation, apnea, airway obstruction, or equipment disconnections. Using a Microstream module tends to lead to more reliable readings under conditions of high humidity or low flow, compared to more basic sidestream setups. The integration with V‑Series means alarms, trending, and display are consistent with other parameters, simplifying clinician workload. However, the module must be properly maintained (e.g. replace water traps if present, prevent moisture condensation, ensure sample line integrity) to ensure signal fidelity and patient safety.
