The BLUselect Suctionaid tracheostomy tube in size 7.0 (model 101/875/070) is a thoughtfully designed airway device intended for adult patients requiring a secure tracheal airway. Its hallmark is a Soft-Seal® low-pressure, high-volume cuff that, when inflated, provides an effective seal against gas leakage while applying gentle pressure to minimize trauma to the tracheal mucosa. The cuff, when deflated, collapses neatly against the tube to facilitate easier insertion and removal with less irritation. The tube is made of thermosensitive PVC, which provides enough rigidity during placement but softens with body temperature to adapt to the contours of the patient’s airway. This balance helps reduce mechanical irritation once in situ.

A key differentiator of this tube is its Suctionaid® lumen above the cuff: an additional channel that enables controlled suctioning of secretions that collect above the cuff, thereby reducing the risk of microaspiration into the lower airway. The device includes a thumb valve for intermittent or continuous suction management. The design also incorporates an integral 15 mm connector, permitting ventilation or connection to breathing circuits even when the inner cannula is removed. The obturator (used during initial insertion) features a special clip to reduce unwanted movement, helping with atraumatic deployment.

Clinically, this tube comes complete with dual inner cannulae, an obturator, a trach-holder (Velcro), a disconnect wedge, cleaning brush, and patient labeling supplies, making it ready for use in a hospital or critical care environment. The tubing and flange are color coded (and laser-printed) to help avoid mix-ups. Because the model is DEHP-free, it mitigates concerns about plasticizer exposure. Collectively, these features make the 101/875/070 a strong option for clinicians looking for a secure, low-trauma tracheostomy solution, especially in patients who may benefit from above-cuff suctioning.
