The Synovis GEM 2754‑FC GEM Flow Coupler is a precision-engineered, single-use device designed for microvascular end-to-end anastomosis of vessels with an outer diameter of approximately 3.0 mm, typically spanning a vessel range of 3.0 to 3.6 mm. This compact coupling system streamlines microvascular procedures by eliminating the need for traditional suturing techniques without compromising the integrity of the connection.
Mechanically, the device utilizes high-density polyethylene rings paired with surgical-grade stainless steel pins to gently and securely mate vessel ends. It’s combined with an integrated 20 MHz ultrasonic Doppler probe that attaches to one of the rings, enabling real-time audio confirmation of blood flow both during and immediately after surgery. After placement, clinicians can monitor vascular perfusion postoperatively for up to 7 days, at which point the Doppler probe can be safely removed while the permanent coupler remains implanted.
Ideal for reconstructive microsurgery, including free-flap and hand procedures, the GEM 2754‑FC Flow Coupler offers enhanced efficiency, accuracy, and postoperative surveillance compared to standard suturing approaches. Its thoughtful integration of vessel coupling and flow monitoring reduces surgical time and supports improved patient outcomes in delicate microvascular operations.
