The Weck 001201 Horizon Small-Wide Titanium Clips are part of the Horizon ligation system designed to provide efficient, reliable vessel or tissue ligation in surgical settings. The “Small-Wide” designation indicates that these clips are intended for smaller caliber vessels or tissue bundles, but with a slightly wider profile to accommodate variability in tissue thickness. Titanium is chosen as the clip material because of its favorable biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, and long-term stability in vivo.
One of the practical features of the 001201 clip system is its adhesive (tape) cartridge. The cartridge backing allows the surgical team to affix it temporarily on a sterile drape or tray adjacent to the operating field, facilitating quick, one-hand loading without fumbling. Cartridges are color-coded to match the applier interface, reducing the chance of loading the wrong size clip into a given applier. With 6 clips per cartridge and 30 cartridges per box, the system supports many uses in a single surgical session or inventory batch.
Mechanically, these clips are engineered with multiple design enhancements to improve grip, retention, and resistance to displacement. The “chevron” preformed shape ensures that when the jaws close, the tips engage the tissue first and then press inward, improving sealing. The heart-shaped wire geometry gives better grip to curved surfaces, and the triangulated cross-section of the clip leg maximizes the surface contact between the clip and the applier’s jaws, thereby reducing the chance of slippage or “fallout” of the clip from the applier during loading or firing. In operative use, these design attributes contribute to consistent, dependable ligation with minimal user effort.
